This is a short film about the WWII P-51 fighter plane and a pilot named Jim Brooks. Jim was Martha Tilton's long time husband. Martha is not the primary subject of this film but, if you listen thru the final credits, Martha will sing a song for you. Here's the web site. Enjoy.

Hi,

In 1989 Martha and his husband James appeared down here because she was the female singer of the Bob Crosby Band.
Martha and James were wonderful people and I was introduced to them at the back stage in the 150 Night Club,Sao Paulo City. Guess James Brooks remembers me.
Very sad to know Martha went away and to pay her tribute I would like to send you 2 photos I took at that time.
    Do you have interest about?

Sincerely,

What a wonderful tribute to Martha Tilton. Thank you for sharing this with all her many many fans. Some of my fondest and earlist memories are sitting on my fathers lap as a small child listening to Martha on his 78 rpm records. 60 years later and I still get a thrill listening to her pure sweet voice. Now my grandchildren listen with me.

Dear John:

Thanks for catching my audio glitches. Tom Oehme pointed out your forum entry to me, and the 6 recordings you mentioned are now working fine. Darn computers - they want all that code to be exact, it seems, and my typos weren't helping.

I think your idea of listing the CD products that currently contain Martha songs is a good one. I'm sure Tom and I will be posting something soon!

John,

Thank you for visiting my "Martha" site. I'm very sorry about the glitch in the "Audio" section. I'll have my Tech Man look into it on Monday, sure that it is an easy fix.

As for Martha's music, it is becoming rather difficult to find. I am toying with the idea of doing a CD of all the songs she recorded on labels other then the Capital and the Goodman recordings. She has over 350 songs recorded either on records on as radio transcriptions. I have most of them in one form or another. I have also put together a CD of some of Liz Tilton's songs. If you wish to E-Mail me directly you may at thomocc@yahoo.com, I'll be happy to talk more in depth with you on the Martha subject.

Great work on this web page! Many thanks to folks like you who work to keep the wonderful music Martha and all the greats of the swing years alive. I wonder how many Swing fans out there tune into the web broadcast from Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoons - Chuch Cecil's several hour program "The Swingin' Years" is really great. I would guess there are other web broadcasts of Chuck Cecil's program as well. Keep up the good work! - B. G. Berg (age 60)

Hi. Thanks to your website, I've been able to hear Martha Tilton sing for the first time. I like it. However, there are a few tracks in the "Audio" section to which I can't connect. Perhaps you can fix the coding so that these will work like the others --

Capitol recordings
Down the stairs, out the door (unissued)
A stranger in this town
You make me feel so young

Transcriptions
Broadway Caballero
It's De-Lovely
Number ten Lullaby Lane

I began listening to swing and contemporaneous popular music a couple of years back just because I missed hearing music that's musical. Born in the early 'sixties, I'd heard little besides adolescent aggression since I was a child, and I'd become most exceptionally tired of humming tunes learned from Walt Disney !

Now that I've discovered songs my grandparents may once have enjoyed, I'm making up for lost time. I've bought far more music in the last year than I purchased in the preceding forty ! Which has taught me to buy with care. I'd like to acquire more of Martha's songs; but many of the best can't be had without sorting through the huge selection of Benny Goodman ceedeess available today. If someone at this website could point out which of those carry songs she sang and evaluate the various releases in terms of completeness and quality of sound reproduction, I'd be very grateful.

Paul,

Thank you for your comments, I'm glad that you enjoy Martha's site.

She does not have a computer, but I have printed out the page and mailed it to her, she is very appreciative for the work I've done. The best rewards that I could hope for is, to make her happy, and have her fans enjoy her career. This site was truely a labor of love for me, my wife keeps ribbing me about my 90 year old girlfriend.

I have already concidered asking her to record a message to her fans, I will ask her son to see if he could record a message for me. I'm sure that she would do it.

In the meantime, if you would like to drop her a line, you can mail it to; Drop Martha a Line - C/O Tom Oehme - P.O. Box 220 - Lititz, Pa. 17543-0220.

If you would like to chat more, I would love to discuss Martha with you or any fan, you can E-Mail me at: thomocc@yahoo.com.

Both of my parents were born on Martha's birthday, but in 1913, unfortunately, they are both at that "Big Band Concert" in the sky. I am sorry that I did not get involved in this thing called swing while they were still alive. I know that they would have truely enjoyed seeing the Re-enactments that we are involved in.

For Martha,

Tom

Hi Tom.

My name is Paul and I live in Northern California. I’m 45 years old and grew up on Benny Goodman music…and feel great when ever I hear the voice of Martha Tilton! My little niece just turned 5 years old in June and is always very excited to hear my 1955 B.G. Story CD with Martha singing “And the Angels Sing”.

Your Martha webpage is fantastic and I think you’ve done a lot of hard work on it. I really enjoy the photos and especially the songs! Martha must be proud. Has she had a chance to look at it personally?

This request is not necessarily an improvement but more of a wish. Would it be possible for Martha to deliver a personal message to her fans, both her original fans she has had since the height of her career, and also her newer fans who are discovering her voice for the first time? It would be fantastic to hear from her and to know what she is currently thinking. If she were still singing, even if privately, it would make her fans very happy.

My birthday is on November 16th and it is nice to know that Martha’s is on the 14th. I wish her an early birthday greeting and many well wishes.

Thanks and keep up the great work preserving Martha’s great work!

Paul.
