You've got Tickled Pinky and part of the Jack Benny USO skit.
I heard that Broker's Follies #4 was really corny (even so, I would kill to get a clean copy).
Why not add this to wish list:

SERENADE IN SWING (Jan Savitt's Serenade in Swing) 16 min Universal Pictures
*Jan Savitt
*Martha Tilton
*Kenny Stevens
*Rhythm Rascals

Took a look at my copy of Sunny from the Classic Musicals 50 movie set. Martha's appearance is fortunately within the first 5 minutes. She appears facepainted as the Queen of Hearts singing a very short but swinging tune, The Lady Must Be Kissed. As I recall the rest of the film from a couple of years back (I'd rather not watch it again) it has a few other good numbers, and comedy relief from Edward Everett Horton, but the story is trivial and Anna Neagle's style did not appeal to me. So don't exert yourself too much on this unless you are a completist.

I was fortunate to recieve a digital copy of the Jack Benny Program you listed from IJBFC. I guess she was about 48, and she looked great. Her performance was great. She had a good dialogue with Benny. The problem is they had omitted her two songs from the video; except for a few seconds each.

Let me know how your quest is going for the other two films.

In regard to "Why pull punches?" Recently I saw Swing Hostess. It’s the first time I can remember seeing Tilton in anything for over two minutes at a time.

I’m not a big “musical” fan but I sat all the way through You’ll Never Get Rich” just to see & hear her sing the Wedding Cake song. Her performance (and Astaire’s) was good enough to warrant my family and I to watch it at least three more times.

The way I see it maybe you are correct. Maybe she should have been paired with the likes of Fred Astaire or Humphrey Bogart or even gone solo on a big MGM production. But today I don’t know where else you will get to see Martha Tilton at her best on the Big Screen.

Unless either CRIME, INC., BROKERS' FOLLIES, TICKLED PINKY, SERENADE IN SWING, or SUNNY turn out to be better we will still be stuck with SWING HOSTESS. STRICTLY IN THE GROOVE was a fun and entertaining film and featured minimal screen time for Tilton but nothing like Swing Hostess. We still have the Soundies, Swing & Sing, and Varsity Vanities; they are not the quality big production we all want.

Sooner or later, I am anticipating viewing all the films above and do expect to enjoy them all. That’s probably all there is; I’m going to cherish what we were left with. Sometimes I feel that a low budget production sheds a little insight on our past and may help our lazy imaginations kick into gear.

Why pull punches? Seeing this movie again only makes me cringe. Other than the presence of some good Livingston/Evans songs sweetly rendered by our heroine, SWING HOSTESS is horrible, terrible in every conceivable way. Here's a so-called showcase film for Martha Tilton and it shortchanges her continuously. For example, Martha suffers from horrendous staging and editing during her first two numbers. About 20 seconds into "Let's Capture That Moment," the camera cuts to linger on the idiot grins of approval on the faces of a pianist, a studio assistant (who stands three feet away from her at the mic), and a studio engineer, respectively. In case you missed them the first time, you get to see these grinning lemon-meringue-pie pusses again before she's done. Somewhere in between enjoy a cutaway to a dumb phone conversation between men who aren't even listening to Martha's broadcast voice. "Say It With Love" follows this pattern almost precisely, reminding forgetful viewers that these fellas with the cherry-sucker smiles REALLY like Martha's voice (only this time the studio assistant stands a mere foot away from our sweet kid at the mic). Adding insult to injury, weak-voiced Betty Brodel (as Phoebe) immediately afterwards encores the same song! Among other numbers, "Got an Invitation" and "Highway Polka" are simple-minded and childishly staged. For "I'll Eat My Hat," the camera concentrates nicely on Martha, but the song itself is ridiculous. "Music to My Ears" may be a nice song, but SWING HOSTESS is an absolutely rotten picture. One of the best voices and most cheery presences of the Big Band Era, Martha Tilton belonged in MGM musicals, not PRC poverty-row vehicles surrounded by tiddly-wink production values and bottom-of-the-barrel creative "talent." 'NUFF SAID!

Crime, Inc.

"Crime, Inc." was a 1945 release, but I don't think it played in Charlotte, NC
until 1946. When I saw that a Martha Tilton movie was playing at the theatre
which usually ran Westerns, I couldn't wait to get there. I had become a big
Tilton fan that year and in those pre-tv years it was great to see one of your
favorite radio or recording stars in a film.

She looked gorgeous despite the gloomy sets in which the film took place. Even the club where Martha was appearing was dank and dark, but she lit it up with her voice and looks!

The only mention I have ever run across about the film is in "B Movies" by Don
Miller, in Chapter XIII entitled "Miss V from Moscow and Other Disasters."

Miller writes, "Crime, Inc. proved another disappointment, although given a
better grade production (than two other PRC films mentioned in the same section)
and good cast including Leo Carrillo, Tom Neal, singer Martha Tilton in a
laudable acting stint, Lionel Atwill and Harry Shannon. It was based on a story
by Martin Mooney. Mooney was a former crime reporter who had faced a prison term
for refusing to divulge information, and had parlayed this bit of gangland exotica into a career as a screen writer and producer. Neal played the approximation of Mooney and Lew Landers directed, but there was no sense of the gangster period which it was supposed to represent and the pace lagged considerably. As yet, crime shows were not ready for a renaissance and were relegated to the minor theaters."

I have seen the film several times since that time in the theater long ago.
On TV or tape, the film contrast is so dark it is often difficult to watch.
But watch I do for those great Martha scenes--she always looks and sounds
great!

Thank you for visiting my tribute to this wonderful lady. As far as I know, none of the songs that she sang in any of the movies that she was in were recorded, with the exception of "And The Angels Sing" in "The Benny Goodman Story". I someday want to try and at least put them on a tape. Many of these songs were quite nice and easy to listen to. The song "I'll Eat My Hat", I've heard the music before, but with different lyrics, I only heard it once and can not remember the title.

A little side note, Iris Adrian died in the 90's from complications from injuries suffered in one of California's many earth quakes. I always found her attractive, even with the Bronx accent.

Thank you again for visiting us.

The main song featured in this "aspiring singer" type musical comedy was "Let's Capture This Moment" sung beautifully by Martha to both solo piano & band accompaniment. I wonder if this was ever available on record, & if any other artists performed it.
