I don't suppose there is an mp3 of the show anywhere is there?

Over the last year or so I've been haphazardly picking up swing cds. I wasn't around for the era, but always loved it in movies and am actively trying to learn it now. I'd LOVE to be able to see a big band in one of the remaining ballrooms. Sigh.

Anyway, kudos to Tom for this site and allowing those of you who celebrate something you remember, and those of us who are rank beginners a place to begin.

I believe in 1987 Martha was Honored with the Grammy® Hall of Fame Award - "And the Angles Sing" (RCA Victor - 1939) She would have been 72?.

Then in 1997 she received the Golden Bandstand Award from Big Band Academy of America (President Milt Bernhart in Studio City, CA.) She would have been 82?

In the gallery there is a photo of her in her 60's holding an award, I believe, (Emmy) from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Does anybody know what the award is for? When was it presented? Where New York or California? Is the photo authentic?

Please let me know if I'm overlooking something; probably obvious.

Thanks,

We have just added a very rare version of "And The Angels Sing" to the 'Audio' Section of this site. It is the original version that was never recorded. It was done as the introduction of the song on a "Camel Caravan" show. We have included Goodmans into of the song and features comments by Johnny Mercer and Martha, as well. PLEASE TAKE TIME TO ENJOY!!!!!!

Thank you for doing this broad case for my dear friend Martha. She was a very wonderful lady.

I am working on a CD of her recordings on the "Lesser" knows labels. I have almost very one of the over 350 song she sang in one form or another. Many of these were not recorded for commercial sale, but were done on radio show and were therefor included on that radio transcription.

I'd like to invite you to listen to my two-hour tribute to Martha Tilton
this Sunday, December 17th from 3 to 5pm Central Time on Iowa's only full-time jazz station, KCCK.

On the web go to www.kcck.org. If you have Windows Media Player installed, click on the "live webcast" button on the home page and it should be there. You might try it now to check that everything works ok, then join us Sunday afternoon.

I was thinking about my favorite Martha records, and two V-Discs come to mind: "Beyond the Blue Horizon" and "Pack Up Your Troubles." I'll be sure to get those out for the program along with some of her classics with Benny Goodman and her solos and duets on the Capitol label. I'll look through my transcription discs to see if I have her on any public service radio programs. Can't think of any offhand, but if I find any I'll add those to the lineup.

Tom,

I´ve been searching for Jimmy Brooks address for more than 1 year and got it until quite recently. I´ve sent him a letter and got his answer.I´m from Slavicin, Czech Republic. In August 29th,1944 there was an air battle over this town where Jimmy shot down 2 German fighters, his last two credits. That´s why I am interested in him. But today, one of Jim´s friends sent me a message about Martha´s passing away. I´ve never knew her before and never knew she was a star... God bless her...

I will broadcast a 2 hour radio tribute to Martha Tilton tonight, 12/14/06, Thursday at 8PM to 10PM Eastern Time on WRPI-FM 91.5, Troy NY. It should be able to be heard on the web at www.wrpi.org, though the quality sometimes can be less than FM. I will mostly play from the 2 CD Collector's Choice set, with some from the soundies CD, and only a very little from the Goodman recordings, though I have all of those. I want to focus on the voice, so will emphasize her solo recordings.

Has anyone out there transferred the Coral singles to CDR? I'd like to get them for a possible future show. Please write to me at willow_17@msn.com

John,

You talked to Rex Strothers yesterday about using our photos, I'd like to also extent to you the invitation to use anything that we have in our site including the photos. All that I ask is the marthatilton.com gets credit. If you have photos that we do not have, we would like to have the same opportunity to place them on our site. After all, it is all about Martha and her fans.
