Dear Jim,

Thank you for taking the time to write. I, too, am 60 years old and remember listening to the Big Band music while growing up. I became re-aquainted with it about 7 years ago, that is when I discovered Martha Tilton, and have been in love with her music ever since.

To me Martha had the most beautiful voice ever. I listen to her daily and never tier of her music. She did a number of versions of "And The Angels Sing", each one getting better as the years went on.

I hope that you will take tha time to check out all of the sections in "marthatilton.com", make sure to check out the "YouTube section, as it has some very rare film clips of her from the 40's.

Thank you again for writing.

For Martha,

Hi:
I first heard "And the Angels Sing" a couple of years ago on "The Music of Your Life" radio station here in Battle Creek, Michigan. I just love that recording and listened to hear who was singing. My what a beautiful voice. Today I was surfing the inter-net and found this really great site that has been created for this beautiful lady.
I never knew she was so popular as I grew up somewhat later. I am 60 and I have been falling in love with the swing era and the tremendious music of that time in just the last few years.
I have found a few LPs with the Big Bands and some the clasics of the time.
Thanks to all the people that made that Music of that time.

I am not sure how to go about this. I have been going through my fathers things from WW II. He served in the Navy and for a while was on a small island in the Pacific called Emirau. I have found three photograps of Martha Tilton. One by herself, one with Jack Benny and one with Carole Landis and a single name on the photo of "Andrea" (not sure who she is). I would be very willing to email a copy of these to you if you feel this is appropriate for your page.
Thanks,

Thank you for checking out my site. Martha was a very dear friend of mine. She was a very delightful lady to talk to, and she remained that way up till her death.

I have a few years on you, I'm 59, and only truly got interested in Big Band about 7 years ago.

I hope that you take the time to listen to the many songs that are in my "Audio
Section" as well as watch the "Vidio Clips". I have most all of the song that she sang, even those only done on Radio and never recorded in record form. Of the song that she did on Radio and never recorded , my favorite is "It's Only A Paper Moon".
That song, if recorded, whould have been a hit.

Thank you from marthatilton.com

I'm a university professor grading comprehensive exams and "The Benny Goodman Story" came up on my iTunes this morning. There are two Martha Tilton vocals on the CD (MCAD-4055 -- (c)1972): "And the Angels Sing" and "You Turned the Tables on Me." I'm with Jon: "You Turned the Tables on Me" is a favorite song of mine. There are only four other songs in my iTunes library with a higher all-time play count!

I discovered big band music in high school when a small school band played "A String of Pearls" and "In the Mood" at an induction ceremony. A couple years later I would discover big band music as the first thing I had in common with my future father-in-law.

Thirty-plus years later, at age 50, I still enjoy the music -- and the occasional vocals -- from that golden era of American music. I'm glad I have "You Turned the Tables on Me" in digital form: even if the turntable weren't in the attic, I'd wear out that track if it were on vinyl!

Nice site, Tom. After listening to "You Turned the Tables on Me" this morning, I googled Martha Tilton out of curiosity and found your tribute to the person behind the two songs I know.

We have just added a very rare version of "And The Angels Sing" to the 'Audio' Section of this site. It is the original version that was never recorded. It was done as the introduction of the song on a "Camel Caravan" show. We have included Goodmans into of the song and features comments by Johnny Mercer and Martha, as well.
Hello,
This is a nice site and I found it while looking up an old cousin of my Father's he always called 'liltin Marie Tilton'. It seems her mother was a Dicus until she married the Tilton family, and they had a singing daughter he heard of when he was a kid. Could this be the same lady? Just the name got confused when being told family member by family member from Missouri to Hollywood and back again? It is sad I did not see this site a couple of years ago, I travel often through LA and Hollywood and enjoy the sights and people there, and to be able to pop in with my Dad to visit her would have been fun if they are indeed related.
And to think of how often I've driven by that house on Highland.
It was entertaining and interesting to see her videos on YouTube. I did not know the girls wore such short kilts in the 1940's. I guess wars always make the skirts shorter.
Keep up the good work, John Dicus, www.rivenrock.com

Kevin,

Thank you for doing this broad case for my dear friend Martha. She was a very wonderful lady.

I am working on a CD of her recordings on the "Lesser" knows labels. I have almost very one of the over 350 song she sang in one form or another. Many of these were not recorded for commercial sale, but were done on radio show and were therefor included on that radio transcription.
