I have just heard this Amanda Carr's tune on youtube twice "If You Could See Me Now"

and find a very good singer.

Many thanks for your indication, also the players I find to be excellent.
When you'll see Her, lot of compliments from Genoa for this very expressive voice, that I find, above all, sincere. Sense of form, impressive vocal skills without loosing the simplicity of expression.... the culminat point at 2'42 i find to be exemplar in this sense.

Now I have heard five times...

Dear Medtner,

Thank you for visiting my site for Martha, she was a very delightful lady and had a real heart of gold. I, too, liked Loch Lomond and The Angels Sing. I also like a version of Paper Moon, that she did on Armed Forced Radio, but never recorded. E-mail me directly to my normal email address and I'll attach it back to you.

It's great to know that younger folks like har music as well. I'm 62 and have been in love with her voice for about 10 years, when I got into Swing Music.

Another Gal singer you might want to check out is Amanda Carr, she also has the kind of voice that I never tier of. She is an up and coming Big Band / Jazz singer and also a personel friend of my wife and I.

Tom Oehme has written about some his preferences in this site. I feel you are better off with out a short list. If you really want to experience her magical voice you may want to listen to her best recordings AND the others.

Experiencing a wide variety of her music will help you to refine your new taste for quality music. After time the discovery of her new to you recordings will give you a better appreciation for the subdued brilliance in her vocals.

In regard to reading and retaining all the wonderful information here you may want to do as Barbara Stanwyck in Drum Boogie and “Let it Creep Up On Me”.

A good place to hear some of her "best" is on the "AUDIO" page. A list of the CD's on the market at one time or another is on the "ON CD" page. You can't go wrong, if you acquire a CD and don't appreciate it today; tomorrow is always a new day.

I don’t remember hearing of “Martha Tilton” until two years ago ....today I believe she was one of the greatest recorded female vocalists ever. The song/video that hooked me was “A Little Jive Is Good For You (1941)”.

I hope you will continue to enjoy this site and the angelic music left for us by the late "Sweetheart of Swing".

Anyway, I grabbed everything in the audio area and since I've been driving all day, listening all day! Most of the recordings have a low bit rate and quality is variable. I'm not knocking it by any means. You have no idea how happy I am to be able to totally immerse myself in two new voices. Man have I ever been missing something!

But...given the myriad of relabelling, repackaging, and so on that happens with older artists, does anyone have a short-list on must have CDs?

These words from newspaper article "she sang it

I'm from Italy (so I don't know english very well) and have been a fan of Hers since I was, I think, five or six or seven, don't remember well. My father used to play when accompained me to school the famous 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert, I loved all the music and heard hundred of times, but I noticed the two songs Miss Tilton sung in particular. Being a child, I imagined her to be black-haired and similar to Rita Hayworth in sembiance. I found Loch Lomond to be almost ironical, while "Bei mir bist du Schoen" I found very serious in style.
Now I'm above all a classical music lover and a non-professional pianist (here is my nick origins), but Martha Tilton stills remains if not my preferred singer, surely one which name is holy for me. I have scanned a photo from a little cd cover of Benny Goodman (I think it was a french bmg release), and framed it.
Just taken the double cd Jasmine release, hope to receive in a few time.

Great idea to make a site about this dear singer, for years I have tried to gather more informations about Her, now I can hear lot of songs here, but only once a time, don't want to listen too much tunes all together.
You know, here in Italy is not so simple to find news bout Her...

Apparently Martha did four songs on a 33-1/3 rpm called "Be Our Guest". One of the songs may have been "My Dog Has Fleas".

Has anybody listened to this record? If so is it worth acquiring when available?

Thanks for any help.

At the same site you can also get some of her songs taken from the "Alka Seltzer Time" also some MT songs from "Fibber McGee and Molly". At this link you do not hear the whole show only some of the MT songs. There are also many MT mp3's that claim to be taken from 78 rpm vinyl (I'm sure a few of these are mislabeled).

[The Movies] Sunny

Took a look at my copy of Sunny from the Classic Musicals 50 movie set. Martha's appearance is fortunately within the first 5 minutes. She appears facepainted as the Queen of Hearts singing a very short but swinging tune, The Lady Must Be Kissed. As I recall the rest of the film from a couple of years back (I'd rather not watch it again) it has a few other good numbers, and comedy relief from Edward Everett Horton, but the story is trivial and Anna Neagle's style did not appeal to me. So don't exert yourself too much on this unless you are a completist.
